Patrick’s Cabaret Presents Scrawlex: An Uncompromising, Uncensored Open Stage. It’s an audience participation game, with an intermission allowing attendees to network about their art, at their venues, and foster possible collaborations.

*Scrawlex is a bastardization of  “grawlix,” the word for scrawled scribbles indicating swearing in a comic character’s word balloon.

Sign up starts at 7:00PM – 10 minute slots; no advance sign-ups
No tech – or low tech – shows on lobby stage

Patrick’s Cabaret supports artists in their growth and development by encouraging artists of all experience levels to try new things, take risks or present works in progress. We serve a diverse range of artists, from emerging to experienced, from teenagers to seniors. The Cabaret’s first commitment is to serve the needs of local performing artists, specifically reaching out to artists of color and GLBT/queer-identified artists and those with disabilities.

This looks like a pretty good time, to me. Beer, art and fun and games. That’s all I really need to say isn’t it. Plus it’s a fundraiser for a great art gallery.

Secondhand Hounds Benefit Concert and Art Show – 3/20 at Honey

Secondhand Hounds will be hosting a Benefit Concert and Art Show at Honey in NE Minneapolis on Wednesday, March 20th, 2013. We will have bands playing all night, awesome art up for raffle ($1 raffle tickets), a live art auction at the end of the night, and a photo booth!

Grand Opening – The Abstracted Art Gallery – 2/9

It looks like a night of great art, at the newly opened gallery – The Abstracted Gallery. The opening exhibit will feature multiple styles of work from local artists, including Deuce7 a.k.a. Twenty Seven, Chuck U, Biafra Inc., Jesse Golfis, MazeWayz, Taylor Lindgren, and Meat-Jeffery Paul Gadbois.

Gallery 122 at Hang It presents a group exhibition curated by Douglas Beasley featuring over 20 artists from across the US and Canada; all focusing on one model, Marlene Tupy. The opening is Friday January 25th from 7-9pm and is free and open to the public, and runs through March 9th. The photos are a result of workshops taken place at the Minneapolis Photo Center and Vision Quest workshops in the Badlands and Wisconsin. This is an intriguing kaleidoscope of different visions, approaches and execution, all using the same subject. The photographers may think they are ‘capturing her essence’ or at best saying something about who Marlene is, but really they are telling us more about themselves.
