Altered Esthetics is brewing up an exhibition celebrating beer culture in the historic center of Minnesota’s best-known breweries.

Altered Esthetics is a non-profit community-based art gallery and arts advocacy organization located in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. During the last six years, the gallery has hosted more than 50 compelling group exhibitions, showing the work of more than 1,000 local and international artists.

Review – They Dead – Lizards All

They Dead is a four-piece rock outfit from Minneapolis. Their new album, Lizards All is a refreshing combination of alternative with elements of punk and metal. From a technical standpoint, the band operates at a mechanical capacity, (one only needs to listen to the drums on “Actress” to confirm this).  The guitar work, vocals, and overall presentation are all reminiscent of 90s rock, and similarities to bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Unwritten Law are called to mind throughout the 30 minute listen. Interesting effects and sounds appear on the album too, but for the most part, these guys play on the down-to-business side of rock. (more…)

Common Labor’s “Tales of the Troubadours”

The first time I heard Common Labor’s “Tales of the Troubadours” I was actually walking to work listening on headphones through my phone. The first two tracks really set an awesome pace to move to. Since I had no idea what to expect or what I was about to get into, I was excitingly surprised. When the third track “Burn Down the Old School” started playing I immediately started humming and singing along – I wondered if maybe I had heard it on the radio some place or time before. I definitely jammed to that track on repeat for a hot minute. When I got home from work a half-day later, I knew it was time to listen to this album on some speakers for real. (more…)
