Interview with Scott Laurent “Love Don’t Let Me Down”

Scott-1

By: Becca Martin

In part, Dan Wilson may be to blame or to praise, as a reason why MN rocker Scott Laurent-a musician with a respected name and success, left his hometown. “I was recording some new songs with Dan Wilson, when I was entertaining the idea about moving to Nashville. I really needed a change. Dan, and many others, gave me the encouragement I needed to make the move.” Continue reading

By Christine Mlodzik

And more drugs and a few fights. And beer cans on the coffee table. It’s funny, smart and at times, cringeworthy. Continue reading

Review – They Dead – Lizards All

Review by Nigel Carleton

They Dead is a four-piece rock outfit from Minneapolis. Their new album, Lizards All is a refreshing combination of alternative with elements of punk and metal. From a technical standpoint, the band operates at a mechanical capacity, (one only needs to listen to the drums on “Actress” to confirm this).  The guitar work, vocals, and overall presentation are all reminiscent of 90s rock, and similarities to bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Unwritten Law are called to mind throughout the 30 minute listen. Interesting effects and sounds appear on the album too, but for the most part, these guys play on the down-to-business side of rock. Continue reading

Common Labor’s “Tales of the Troubadours”

By Kristine Volovsek

The first time I heard Common Labor’s “Tales of the Troubadours” I was actually walking to work listening on headphones through my phone. The first two tracks really set an awesome pace to move to. When the third track “Burn Down the Old School” started playing I immediately started humming and singing along – I wondered if maybe I had heard it on the radio some place or time before. I definitely jammed to that track on repeat for a hot minute. When I got home from work a half-day later, I knew it was time to listen to this album on some speakers for real. Continue reading
