Ranger Ranger “More Like A Rectangle” Review

Review by Christine Mlodzik

Ranger Ranger’s new seven-track album, “More Like A Rectangle,” is filled with a dreamy sound interwoven with sweetness and melancholy.

The band doesn’t list them as an influence, but Ranger Ranger sounds a lot like Death Cab For Cutie and the vocals on the first two tracks, “Up State” and “Tapper,” are Ben Gibbard-esque.

This album is lush and impeccably produced. All seven tracks are very listenable, but the closing track, “Malk,” doesn’t quite reach the same caliber as the other six.

One strength of Ranger Ranger is the harmonizing. Cody Johnson’s and Ryan Stokes’ vocals are distinct, but each mesh effortlessly and smoothly with Jennifer Stokes’ voice.

“More Like A Rectangle” is a comfortable, pleasant and satisfying experience. You won’t need to convince yourself to stick around and listen.
