Review – Heavy Deeds – Light Lunch

By Tommy Rehbein

Go buy a van and put shag carpet inside of it. Drive west. Pick up a couple hitchhikers along the way. Stop in the desert and take some peyote. Wander around beneath the sun for a while.

Make love in the shag carpet van with one of the hitch hikers. Get to California just as the sun is rising. Pour out of the van with clouds of smoke. You were listening to Heavy Deeds the whole time.

Loads of Farfisa organ, trippy guitar, tranced out vocals, hand drums, and fluid bass lines carry “Light Lunch” nicely in all it’s ‘70s psych-pop glory. Ex-Vampire Hands people, which doesn’t surprise me too much, though Heavy Deeds is it’s own creature. Nicely done.
