It’s amazing that we live in a city with such musical variety and talent. L’ASsassins, are releasing their new EP Kill! Kill! Kill! Bang! Bang! Bang! They are bringing surf and rockabilly music to a new level, along with a whole bunch of sexy reverb.
The band has already shared the stage with other great artists, toured Europe, made some great videos and shows no signs of slowing down.
Saturday night would probably be a good night to put on a leather jacket; slick your hair back and hit the dance floor at the Triple Rock. I am pretty sure L’Assassins are going to bring it, so if you’re heading down there, you better watch it.
L’Assassins, Calabrese, Fury Things, Leather Sweater and DJ’s Rambo Salina and Tom Novak.
Saturday, October 18th – 8pm – $7 – 18+

Nooky Jones at the Triple Rock – if Duke Ellington were still around, instead of invoking “Sophisticated Lady”, he might have mentioned something like “Simply Sublime”.. Nooky Jones, a new sextet led by vocalist and trumpeter Cameron Kinghorn, brought new original flavors to the stage last Friday night. Crossover recipes served by Cameron, Adam Meckler, Ryan Christianson, Kevin Gastonguay, Andrew Foreman and Reid Kennedy engaged the heart, mind, body and soul. Intimate vocals were delicate and engaging, horn arrangements were harmonically and rhythmically advanced, and rhythm was tight, focused and supportive. Like a good merlot, Nooky Jones was a little chocolatey, with hints of soul and hip hop, deliciously danceable, and with a smooth finish. If you were there with or without your man or woman, chances are good you stirred to music you can live and love with easily.

“At first glance most would think a skinny, blue-eyed hipster looking dude in a flannel with obnoxious Nike’s to match, would be in a post-electro indie-band” (from Ecid’s Bandcamp site http://ecid.bandcamp.com/). However, the notion that “Ecid is the voice to kick a hipster to” is very apparent on his new “Post Euphoria” EP. Continue reading
